In Our Communities
Define Your Direction collaborated with the Chickasaw Nation Pharmacy, Chickasaw Nation Lighthorse Police Department, and the Austin Box “12” Foundation to provide tribal police officers training on Naloxone administration. Naloxone is a drug that counters the effects of an opioid (pain killer) overdose. By being equipped with and knowing how to administer Naloxone, officers will be able to assist an individual experiencing an opioid drug overdose as opposed to waiting for medical assistance to arrive, which increases that person’s chance for survival.
In the Nation
Youth leaders met the U.S. Surgeon General, Dr. Vivek Murthy, and gave a presentation on Define Your Direction. Tribes from across Oklahoma were present to talk about addiction, substance abuse, mental health services and general health.
